Two Commands...

The God I know and worship is a God that loves you so deeply, you can't imagine how deep this love is.  God looks at us and says, "You homosexuals, bisexuals, transvestites, transsexuals, black people, girl with the birthmark on her face that was picked on at school, you with the strange hair, you with the speech impediment, you with no make-up on, you walking with daily pain due to curvatur of the spine...  I love you."  "Not just the white man, middle class, employed, heterosexual, straightlaced, perfect faced, perfect children, expensive car, non-swearing, well mannered people... I love you guys too..."

"You with the 6 divorces and little dignity left, yes you, come here.  I want you to know how much I love you.  I want you to marry me.  Guess what?  I wont leave you, nor forsake you.  I died for you and I want to serve you.  How about that?"

Once you've followed the first command, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength... " You need to get to grips with the 2nd.  "Love your neighbour as yourself."  These two commands are not get out of jail free cards.  It also doesn't mean you stop following civil laws that govern society, they just say that love is more important than law.  Their implications make them intricate and detailed.

So you go on a journey... I wont go into the details because that's personal.  Whatever you're going through is between you and God.  When your relationship with God is awesome, maybe you'll have tried some spiritual disciplines, daily prayer, immersed yourself in the Psalms, read the Gospel and done some charity work...  You need to stand before God and say, "Please God, make me see myself the same way you see me..."  You need courage to do this.  I promise it will change your life.  The first time you step outside your me, me, me, me mentality, your heart will break.  You will extend a loving hand to someone in need and no matter how big or small your gesture of love is to that person, you will make their day, or you will change their life.  You will both be sharing in the love that God has for us all.  Eventually you will get used to it and will understand that God has transformed you, so that when you treat your neighbour as yourself, it will be amazing.
